I’m Back!

Hello hello! Very long time no update. Life has been especially crazy this year. We finished building our new house and moved in just in time for the arrival of our 2nd child 5 weeks early. Its taken some time to get settled and into a new routine but it feels like maybe we are turning a corner and everyone is finding their footing.

I did not do much art over the summer for aforementioned reasons but this fall was a different story. I made several paintings to prep for a possible space in a local shop. It ended up falling through but still love the pieces and I know they will find a home eventually. The big shift though was my decision to pivot and focus on lettering. For now digital lettering has been easier to accomplish but I would love to try to incorporate it more into my traditional work at some point. I did do this piece which was accepted into a local gallery for an exhibition. (Its at the Reeves House in downtown Woodstock until December 21 if you’re local!)

To really commit to this creative pivot I decided to participate in Peachtober (a prompt list created by Furry Little Peach each October) again but this time focusing on lettering with just a little bit of illustration thrown in. I picked a color palette and a canvas size and then hunkered down for 31 days.

All 31 pieces!

The prompt list!

I learned several things early in the process. One was that I really didn’t like the portrait format for every composition. It made the final product look nice but there were some pieces that I think would have benefitted from a different layout. Second was that I kinda got frustrated with the color palette pretty quickly but it was a good thing because it made me think more creatively and try things I wouldn’t have normally tried. Also on the plus side I really got faster and executing each piece. Having the deadline of one piece a day really helped me not fiddle with it indefinitely and just get it done. All in all I’m really happy with how it turned out and proud that I stuck with it for a whole month. 👏🏻

Looking forward to the end of the year I am planning on working on some holiday pieces and brainstorming projects for the new year. If you have any suggestions or need some custom lettering done let me know! Wishing you a wonderful holiday season!
